Five steps to care

Ophthalmic diseases treatments

High-quality treatment for eye conditions

Do you have impaired vision or an eye disease, for which you are looking for high-quality diagnosis and treatment?

The Vision Center of the Ophthalmology Outpatient Clinic serves patients with visual impairment. We are an internationally visible eye clinic, in terms of both high-quality care and scientific research. We provide treatment annually for more than 30 000 patients with eye conditions. We carry out about 3000 surgeries that consist of cataract, glaucoma, strabismus and retina surgery. We utilize laser technology in the treatment of retinal diseases and glaucoma. We have an extensive international cooperation network and we have consulted many international experts in the treatment of eye conditions.

The Vision Center is led by professor Kai Kaarniranta, who conducts the pre-examinations and makes the treatment plans.  Our experts have been deeply involved in the development of the treatments and the medication for eye conditions. All the members of our multi-professional team are highly experienced, friendly and supportive. The whole team speaks English and if needed we can arrange a translator.  We offer high quality patient care without delays and utilize the latest technology in our patient care.

Treatment for Age-related Macular Degeneration

Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) happens when a part of the retina called the macula is damaged. With AMD you lose your central vision and you cannot see fine details. We annually carry out almost 5000 intraocular injection treatments for wet AMD. AMD diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care are carried out by the most experienced retinal specialists. The access to treatment is fast. In diagnosis and follow-up care, we use the latest precise imaging technology, such as OCT light layer imaging.

Treatment for diabetic retinopathy

We use the latest imaging technology in the diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy. We treat diabetic retinopathy by means of laser technology and/or intraocular injections. We have centralized the diagnosis, the treatment and the follow-up care to the best diabetes specialists. We carry out the treatment in collaboration with internal medicine physicians by holistically taking into account the balance of diabetes.

Neuro-ophthalmology

The neuro-ophthalmologist is a university clinic specialist, who ensures high-quality neuro-ophthalmology diagnosis and treatment. The radiography examinations comprise the imaging of the fundus, visual field examinations, OCT, CT and MRI examinations. We often carry out the treatment of optic nerve diseases in flexible cooperation with neurologists, neurosurgeons, internal medicine physicians and radiologists. We mainly treat glaucoma patients with medication and laser technology. Some of the glaucoma patients require surgery, which we implement with modern technology.
